Story by Deborah (Support Worker )
I worked at my previous job for 23 years with the elderly with Suffolk County Council. Unfortunately I was made redundant when the home closed.
They were opening a new home and I was offered a job and NVQ level 3 training but I turned it down as I decided I wanted a new challenge.
I applied for a Support Worker position at Haverhill and was successful.
I like the variety of Tenants and characters and enjoy seeing them happy, which gives me a sense of fulfilment and job satisfaction.
I enjoy supporting them with their daily needs and going that little bit further to help them to achieve their wishes.
I enjoy taking Tenants on holidays, shopping, walking, clubs and various activities.
I took a Tenant on holiday in July and he really loved the music and dancing in the club room at Pontin’s and it was nice to see a smile on his face as he loves music and dancing. It was a worthwhile experience and a lot of memories which were recorded in the form of photos, which he can look back on and reflect.
A working day is never the same, every day is different.
