Story by Lee (Support Worker )
Hi my name is Lee. I’m a Support Officer working for Hilton in Swaffham. Previously I’d never done any type of work like this and I was really throwing myself in the deep end by taking on a new role as all of my previous jobs were working in middle management.
I have been working with the company now for five months, and let me tell you I absolutely love my job. There is nothing better or more satisfying than supporting a person in their everyday life and supporting them achieve their goals, no matter how big or small they may be, whether it’s supporting them to make their own cups of tea or their first time going to the theatre. Watching a person grow and gain their own independence from the support I and the team have given and will continue to give is an amazing life-changing experience, it truly is a beautiful thing to finish a shift and know you have made a difference in someone’s life and have true job satisfaction and look forward to the next shift.
I’m 33 years old and it never crossed my mind once to go into support work but I feel now I have found a job I was always meant to do – I wish I would have found it earlier in life. A normal day may just begin with the Tenant getting up and requesting breakfast and having a lovely chat with you before then supporting them with their personal care, after which listening to what the Tenant wants to do that day and supporting them the best you can to give them what they need.
I can honestly say I’ve had other jobs in the past when I’ve woken up not wanting to go to work but I always look forward to each and every shift, no matter what we’re doing, no matter what the weather, I always start the shifts with a smile on my face and when I leave a shift I have a smile on my face.
I look forward to many years ahead in this career now, I would like to thank Hilton Care for giving me the opportunity to find my dream career.
