Story by Kyle

My name is Kyle I have a visual impairment and learning disability.

I lived at home with my parents and sister, I attended school and then college. My family and I decided it was time for me to try and live independently. I went with my mum to look at Service X. I met the staff who were very nice. Service X was still being renovated so I was able to choose my room. I was first to move in, I now have two housemates and I have now been here since 2015.

Since I have been here when needed I get support to live as independently as much as I can. I do all my own personal care, I can change my bedding and do my washing with support. I have also started doing my own pack lunches.

I can ring up and book my taxi to take me out on activities I have chosen. I enjoy going out for meals and going to different clubs in the evenings. I enjoyed two holidays with my housemates and staff. I did rock climbing and archery with support.

I enjoy meeting up with friends and family. I get on well with all the staff and enjoy going out with them on a 1:1 basis doing personal shopping and activities.

Last year I had my room decorated and went out with staff and chose the paint colour and picked new furniture with staff and a new carpet. I really like my new room.

I like living at Service X and feel settled.
